VELIKY NOVGOROD, October 27 (RIA Novosti) - The parents of a baby in the Novgorod Region of northwest Russia called doctors after discovering that the 'juice' they had bought for the child was in fact industrial spirits, local doctors said on Monday.

The couple told doctors that they had purchased and then given their child some juice produced specially for infants, but that he immediately spat it out.

They then tried the juice themselves and discovered that the bottle contained industrial spirits. The child was not harmed, however.

The parents later told doctors that they had bought the juice in a local shop, and that it did not appear to have been opened beforehand.

"The father, who is a doctor himself, said he would complain to the staff of the shop where the juice was bought," the doctor said. "We have no idea of whether he did it or not, and what was the result."
