Regional legislator shot dead in Russia's North Caucasus

Unidentified gunmen have shot dead a member of parliament of Russia's North Caucasus Republic of Karachai-Circassia, a police source said on Wednesday.

MOSCOW, January 14 (RIA Novosti) - Unidentified gunmen have shot dead a member of parliament of Russia's North Caucasus Republic of Karachai-Circassia, a police source said on Wednesday.

The attack occurred late on Tuesday in the republic's capital, Cherkessk. The 48-year-old lawmaker, Islam Krymshamkhalov, was shot dead while parking his vehicle in a car park near the republic's Supreme Court.

"Armed people, driving a Lada car, fired several shots at a lawmaker from the republic's People's Assembly," the source said.

Krymshamhalov, who led the parliamentary faction of the A Just Russia party, was also deputy chairman of the parliament's committee on procedure and information policy.
