MOSCOW, January 23 (RIA Novosti) - Cuban leader Raul Castro will visit Moscow later this month, with the official part of his visit scheduled for January 30, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Igor Sechin announced on Friday.

"An official visit to Russia by the Cuban leader will take place later this month. Official events will be held on January 30," Sechin said, adding that the exact details of Castro's schedule were still being worked out.

He also said that both Russia and Cuba had changed a lot since Castro's last visit to the Russian capital in 1984.

"Cuba has managed to overcome a tough embargo, the difficult economic situation helped build up the national economy, and [Cuba] became a regional leader. Substantial changes have also taken place in Russia," Sechin said.

Vice President of the Cuban Council of Ministers Ricardo Cabrisas said both countries would sign a number of agreements during Castro's visit.

"A number of documents are being drafted. They should be signed during Raul Castro's visit," he said without disclosing any more details.

Sechin said the two countries were considering joint projects in fishing and transportation, including aviation.
