MOSCOW, April 14 (RIA Novosti) - A Russian police officer was killed and another two wounded in a shootout with a group of militants in Russia's volatile republic of Chechnya, a local police source said on Tuesday.
Russian interior ministry troops on Monday became involved in a shootout with a group of some 10 militants in west Chechnya. One police officer was killed in the shootout and two others were hospitalized.
Fighting has largely subsided in Chechnya, the venue of two anti-separatist wars led by the Kremlin, but the region has remained unstable with militants staging attacks on troops and local authorities.
