MOSCOW, May 19 (RIA Novosti) - Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov announced on Tuesday that the republic had no plans to grant an amnesty for militants in the region.
Anti-terrorist operations in Chechnya officially ended on April 16, after a 10-year crackdown on the republic because of militant activity.
"We will no longer request an amnesty [for the militants] from the federal center, but will tackle them brutally;" Kadyrov said "Today the republic is reviving. If someone hasn't seen or heard this, then they are not a person and his place is in prison or in a cemetery."
Kadyrov said that the republic's main issues today are its social and economic development so that in the future the republic will become stable.
"We can fight, but we can also build," he said.
