YEKATERINBURG, June 14 (RIA Novosti) - An international press center for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), scheduled to be held on June 15-16 in the Urals city of Yekaterinburg, started its work on Sunday.
"Over 700 representatives of Russian and foreign media organizations have been accredited for the SCO summit, and meetings within the format of BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India and China)," Russian presidential spokesperson Maria Sergeyeva said.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization comprises Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan. The group primarily addresses security issues, but has been widening its remit to embrace economic and energy projects.
The Goldman Sachs economist who coined the term BRIC in 2003, Jim O'Neill, earlier said that the four countries are likely to increase their share of the global economy faster than previously expected, due to the financial crisis.
