GROZNY, July 20 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's volatile southern republic of Chechnya has opened its first studio to produce animated movies in the Chechen language on religious and cultural themes.
"Our movies will educate children based on the beauty and wisdom of Islam and ethnic traditions," said Magomed Elgarayev, acting head of the Put Publishing House in Gudermes, some 40 km from the capital Grozny, which accommodates the studio.
Elgarayev said a special commission comprising Muslim clerics will give advice on the selection of screenplays to ensure they comply with religious and cultural norms. He said a host of scripts had been sent to the publishing house, "There is no shortage of scripts."
Chechnya, which saw two brutal separatist wars in the 1990s and early 2000s, has enjoyed relative stability under current President Ramzan Kadyrov. However, attacks involving militants have become almost a daily occurrence in recent months since the Kremlin officially ended its anti-terrorism operation in the mainly Muslim republic.
