ROSTOV-ON-DON, September20 (RIA Novosti) - Two police officers were shot dead and another wounded in an attack by unidentified assailants in Russia's North Caucasus Republic of Ingushetia, the republican interior ministry said on Sunday.
The attack occurred on Sunday afternoon on the Kavkaz federal highway near the village of Gazi-Yurt in the Nazran district in central Ingushetia when attackers opened fire at a car carrying officers of the republic's center for fight against extremism, the ministry said.
Attacks on troops, police and other officials have been reported almost daily in Ingushetia and Russia's other North Caucasus republics in recent months.
On August 17, Ingushetia was hit by a suicide bombing which killed at least 20 people and injured 260 people.
Ingush President Yunus-Bek Yevkurov himself survived a suicide car bomb attack on his motorcade in June and returned to work last month.
