MOSCOW, September 24 (RIA Novosti) - Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov said he has chosen a member of Russia's lower house of parliament Adam Delimkhanov as his potential successor.
"If I am gone, Kadyrov's cause will continue. There is a team, there are people who will continue my cause...I have prepared a person who could replace me...Adam Delimkhanov," Kadyrov said in an interview with the Zavtra (Tomorrow) newspaper.
Kadyrov described his successor as a closest friend, "closer than a brother," who continued to fight against Chechen militants in the mountains, despite being a politician.
Meanwhile, Delimkhanov has been put on an Interpol wanted list over his suspected involvement in the murder of former Vostok military commander Sulim Yamadayev, who was gunned down in a car park near his luxury apartment in Dubai on March 28.
The Russian MP has repeatedly denied the claims and said he was preparing a lawsuit against Dubai police.
Speaking about the political situation in Chechnya, Kadyrov said he was ready to share power even with his opponents.
"I already said on television that if you have a program, a project, which is more beneficial to people that ours, then we will cede power," Kadyrov said.
"Prove your competency, bring more benefits to people than we do, then you will earn power," he added.
