Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said on Thursday he was counting on constructive dialogue with France on a number of global issues, including European security.

BARVIKHA (Moscow Region), October 1 (RIA Novosti) - Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said on Thursday he was counting on constructive dialogue with France on a number of global issues, including European security.

Medvedev attended on Thursday a meeting of the Russian-French Council for Security Cooperation, which is comprised of the two countries' foreign and defense ministers.

"We are due for a new treaty on European security. This initiative has not been recalled and I hope it will be studied. We count on France's participation in this," Medvedev said.

"There are also other complex issues, such as the settlement of the Middle East conflict, Iran's nuclear program, North Korea...and much depends here on Russia and France's coordinated position," the president added.

Medvedev proposed a concept of a new European security treaty in Berlin last June, which he said should involve not only the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) but also other organizations, like NATO, the European Union, the post-Soviet Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).
