UNITED NATIONS, October 10 (RIA Novosti) - Russian citizens were not on board a UN plane which crashed in Haiti late on Friday, killing all 11 people on board, the UN press service told RIA Novosti.
A UN surveillance plane from the Uruguayan contingent of the U.N. peacekeeping force went down east of the capital, Port-au-Prince during a routine patrol flight . The causes of the crash are still unknown.
"The victims were military personnel from Uruguay and Jordan. There are no Russians among the dead," the UN officials said.
According to the UN, there are 11 Russian citizens serving as part of the UN Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH).
As of August 31, 2009, MINUSTAH comprised 9,123 total uniformed personnel, including 7,057 troops and 2,066 police, supported by 492 international civilian personnel, 1,221 local civilian staff and 205 United Nations Volunteers.
