A Chechen police officer is under investigation after his younger brother accidentally shot their sister while playing with his service-issue assault rifle, Russian investigators said on Wednesday.
"A criminal case has been opened against police officer Magomed-Emi Vaidov, suspected in the negligent keeping of a weapon that resulted in a death of an underage girl," a statement said.
According to the statement, the suspect left his Kalashnikov AK-74 assault riffle unattended in his house in the village of Mayrtup, located in Chechnya's Kurchaloyevsky district, on November 6.
Vaidov's young brother started playing with the weapon and accidentally shot his sister, who died in a hospital from a chest wound, investigators said.
