Police search for bomb at Moscow train station

Police in Moscow are searching for an explosive device at the Kievsky train station, a spokesman told RIA Novosti on Saturday.

"At 2:40 p.m. an unidentified person called police and said an explosive device had been planted at Kievsky train station," the spokesman said, adding that search of the station was underway.

The spokesman said that the station, located near the centre of the city, had not been evacuated. But a RIA Novosti correspondent at the scene reported announcements asking "all passengers to leave." Ticket offices remain open, although the entrance to the station has been closed.

The development comes the day after a bomb caused a Moscow-St. Petersburg train to derail, killing at least 26 people. Prosecutors have opened a criminal case on charges of terrorism.

The blast has raised fears of a resurge in terrorist attacks in the Russian capital and other major cities. Russia was hit hard by terrorism in the 1990s and the early years of this decade, but there had not been a major incident outside the volatile North Caucasus since 2004.
