
Police have killed a Chechen militant during a shootout in the volatile North Caucus republic, during which one police authority injured, a police spokesman said on Tuesday.
Police authorities discovered the militant near the village of Samashki and when approached, began shooting at authorities.
"A militant gang member was discovered in the woods and when approached, resisted arrest by firing a weapon. He was killed by police authorities," the spokesman said.
During the shootout, one police authority was injured.
Investigators say the man was armed with a Kalashnikov and 120 bullets.
Authorities are attempting to identify the militant and an investigation is continuing.
