A railway linking Moscow and St. Petersburg will be equipped with a video monitoring system within five years, a spokesman for the Russian Railways company said on Thursday.

The statement came after a recent terrorist attack on the Nevsky Express train, which took the lives of 26 people and left more than 90 injured. The train was en route from the Russian capital to St. Petersburg.

"This year we equipped some railway sections [with video cameras]. We are planning to equip the whole railway," Pavel Sazonov said, adding about 3 billion rubles (more than $100 million) is expected to be spent on the project to be completed in five years.

The Nevsky Express derailed last Friday after a bomb equivalent to 7 kg (15 lbs) of TNT detonated on the track. A second, weaker bomb exploded at the site on Saturday, and is believed to have targeted investigators. No one was seriously injured, but Alexander Bastrykin, head of Russia's Investigation Committee, received minor injuries. Security was stepped up at Russia's railways following the accident.

On Wednesday, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev ordered action to prevent terror attacks on Russia's railways, in particular setting a tight deadline for investigating such accidents.
