Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said on Monday the latest parliamentary election showed that the country needs tighter supervision to ensure fair voting.
"We should look at ways of refining supervision mechanisms over voting," the president said, adding that "the latest elections made this very clear."
The election was held on October 11. Opposition parties claimed electoral fraud after the ruling United Russia party won by a landslide.
On October 14, members of three parties - the Communists, the nationalist Liberal Democratic Party (LDPR) and the Kremlin-backed A Just Russia - walked out of the State Duma in protest against the polls. The parties later returned to parliament.
