No one has applied to become the president of the Russian Olympic Committee, with potential applicants wary of unrealistic pressure to succeed, a top official said on Wednesday.

No one has applied to become the president of the Russian Olympic Committee, with potential applicants wary of unrealistic pressure to succeed, a top official said on Wednesday.

"The task is set clearly: first place in overall medals table in Sochi is a successful result, second - unsuccessful, third - an epic failure. Apparently, this is the reason why there still haven't been any applicants for the position of the president of the Olympic Committee," said Rostislav Murzagulov, an adviser to the committee president.

Russia's Olympic Committee on March 23 accepted the resignation of its head Leonid Tyagachev over the country's poor showing at this year's Vancouver Winter Olympics.

Russia took a disappointing 11th place in the overall medals table, winning three golds, five silvers and seven bronzes. Sochi will host the next Winter Games, in 2014.

The deadline for applications to become the president of the Russian Olympic Committee is April 19. The first vice president, Igor Kazikov, will serve as acting president until the committee convenes on May 20.
