An MI-8 Hip helicopter with a flight crew and 16 tourists on board that lost radio contact over the Kamchatka Peninsula has been spotted by air under an avalanche, an Emergencies Ministry spokeswoman said on Saturday.
"According to the pilot of [another] helicopter that found the missing helicopter, the aircraft is at the base of a mountain covered by a snow avalanche and is damaged. There is no information on the condition of the tourists or flight crew," Natalya Lukash said.
Sergei Viktorov, a spokesman for the Far East Emergencies Ministry, said earlier on Saturday the helicopter pilot did not make radio contact at the specified time.
