Russia continues to send Britain extradition requests for Chechen separatist leader Akhmed Zakayev, regardless of constant refusals from London, the head of Interpol's office in Russia said on Wednesday.
Akhmed Zakayev, who lives in self-imposed exile in Britain, has been residing in London since 2003.
"We have sent [another] request but we are already aware of the reply," Timur Lakhonin said, adding Zakayev had received refugee status in Great Britain which prevents him from being detained.
Russia put Zakayev on an international wanted list in 2001, accusing him of terrorist activities.
A host of Russian fugitives, including billionaire Boris Berezovsky and businessman Yevgeny Chichvarkin, have holed up in Britain, with some of them gaining British citizenship or political asylum.
Moscow has so far failed to have any of them extradited.
