Russia's Sedov barque sets sail for Iceland

Russia's Sedov barque, the largest sailing ship in the world, has left the port of Amsterdam and set course for Iceland as part of its Northern Expedition.

Russia's Sedov barque, the largest sailing ship in the world, has left the port of Amsterdam and set course for Iceland as part of its Northern Expedition.

"Before leaving Amsterdam, where the barque had been for four days, there was an award ceremony for the participants of the Rostock-Amsterdam regatta, in which the Sedov took part along with its sister, the Kruzenshtern," a spokesperson for the Murmansk State Technical University told RIA Novosti.

The Kruzenshtern won the regatta, which was part of the Hanse Sail maritime festival in Rostock, northern Germany. Russian Ambassador to the Netherlands Roman Kolodkin took part in the award ceremony.

The Sedov is carrying 103 students of maritime schools. It had already visited Norway, Sweden and Finland.

While on its stay in Oslo, Norway, in May, the barque hosted a performance by Pyotr Nalitch, Russia's contestant at the 2010 Eurovision song contest.
