Although Russia's modernization is not proceeding fast enough, there is no alternative to it, President Dmitry Medvedev said on Friday.
"We are not happy with its pace but some results have been achieved all the same," he said.
"There is absolutely no alternative to modernization of the economic or political system."
He said the main impediment to modernization was not that there was opposition but that a significant part of bureaucracy and business had yet to realize that modernization is a long term process.
