A car, apparently taking part in a street race, ploughed into a group of pedestrians in southern Moscow, killing one and injuring five.

A car, apparently taking part in a street race, ploughed into a group of pedestrians in southern Moscow, killing one and injuring five, a police source said on Sunday.

"A street racer... hit several pedestrians early on Sunday. One person was killed, five received injuries of varying degrees," the source said.

The driver was detained.
