Two people died and one person was injured after a helicopter crashed in a mountainous area in south Russia, the regional emergencies center said on Sunday.

The incident occurred at noon on Sunday when the Ka-32 helicopter hit a ropeway on the Fisht Mountain at the administrative border between the Krasnodar Territory and the Republic of Adygea, fell and caught on fire. There were three crewmembers aboard the helicopter. Two of them were killed while the third pilot was injured.

"The incident will be investigated by the investigative committee, the transport prosecutor's office and specialists from the civil aviation authority AeroNavigation," a police source told RIA Novosti.

Earlier reports said the helicopter, which belongs to Aero-Kamov company, hit electricity transmission lines.

The Ka-32 is a 12-ton coaxial twin-rotor helicopter that can transport 13 passengers and carry a payload of up to four tons.

It is commonly used in utility cargo work, rescue operations and fire-fighting, has an endurance of about four hours and cruises at 205 kilometers per hour.
