A Russian expedition vessel has been detained in the Canadian port of St. John's on the island of Newfoundland over debts.
"The vessel was seized following a suit by a haulage contractor over a $251,000 debt," Pyotr Osichansky of the International Transport Workers Federation (ITF) said on Thursday.
The Lyubov Orlova is crewed by 49 Russian nationals and two Ukrainians. The crew members are appealing to the Russian authorities to help bring them home.
Canadian ITF inspectors will visit the ship in the next few hours, Osichansky added.
