Russia's commercial reserves of natural uranium have doubled and production has increased 13% since the start of 2010, the head of the state nuclear corporation Rosatom said Tuesday.

Russia's commercial reserves of natural uranium have doubled and production has increased 13% since the start of 2010, the head of the state nuclear corporation Rosatom said Tuesday.

"We have completed our own work jointly with the Natural Resources Ministry to increase uranium reserves in the country, and the acquisition of Canadian company Uranium One, which allowed us to substantially increase reserves," Sergei Kiriyenko told the government presidium.

"We nearly doubled the most profit-making reserves. And we increased natural uranium production by 13% year-on-year in the first nine months of 2010," he said.

Kiriyenko said that Russia will raise the volume of its contracts to enrich uranium and supply nuclear fuel by the end of 2010.

"We will bring the volume of fuel supply and enrichment contracts to $20 billion by the yearend," he said.
