Moscow's new mayor, Sergei Sobyanin, called on Friday for further consultation on the capital's controversial development plan through 2025 that was adopted by ex-mayor Yury Luzhkov in May.
Critics have decried the plan as illegal, saying that it was pushed through in violation of the federal law. Russia's Public Chamber, which oversees the government and parliament, has described it as a "death sentence" for Moscow.
"Sergei Sobyanin has given the order to hold a consultation with his participation on the general plan of the capital's development in order to optimize it," the City Hall's press service said.
Sobyanin was approved overwhelmingly by the Moscow legislature last week. He replaced Luzhkov, who was sacked by President Dmitry Medvedev over a "lack of confidence" in September.
