The case against a Russian deputy finance minister accused of embezzling millions of dollars from public funds has been sent to the Prosecutor General's Office, investigators said on Friday.

The case against a Russian deputy finance minister accused of embezzling millions of dollars from public funds has been sent to the Prosecutor General's Office, investigators said on Friday.

"The investigative committee has completed the investigation regarding Deputy Finance Minister Sergei Storchak," spokesman Vladimir Markin said.

The prosecutor's office will now decide whether to bring the case to court. It previously returned the case to investigators after ruling that more evidence was needed to secure a conviction.

Storchak, who oversaw talks over paying off Russia's Soviet-era debts, was arrested in November 2007 after being accused of taking part in a massive fraud to siphon more than $43 million from public funds.

He was released in October 2008 on condition that he would not leave the country.
