The Prosecutor General's Office has returned an embezzlement case against a Russian deputy finance minister to investigators due to lack of evidence and violations, a spokesperson said on Monday.

Storchak's right to defense was violated, Marina Gridneva said.

Storchak, who oversaw talks on paying off Russia's Soviet-era debts, was arrested in November 2007 after being accused of embezzling $43 million from public funds. He was released in October 2008 on condition that he would not leave the country.

This is the second time the prosecutor's office has returned the case to investigators due to lack of evidence.
