Russia's Skolkovo hi-tech research hub may establish a regional branch in Russia's southeastern republic of Tatarstan, the press service of the republic's president said on Monday.

Russia's Skolkovo hi-tech research hub may establish a regional branch in Russia's southeastern republic of Tatarstan, the press service of the republic's president said on Monday.

Representatives of Skolkovo's leadership and experts from the Renova company are currently on a two-week working visit to the republic. They arrived on Sunday to discuss prospects of cooperation with enterprises and research centers from the region.

Skolkovo is interested in Tatarstan as the republic has a strong and well-developed research and scientific environment, a statement by the president's administration cited Alexander Turkot, Skolkovo's IT Cluster Development Officer, as saying.

"We know that Tatarstan is one of the most economically developed regions of Russia and technologies, research centers, and high-tech hubs are flourishing here," the same statement quoted Rinat Khalikov, a member of Renova's executive board, as saying.

Tatarstan's leader, Rusatm Minnikhanov, said the republic is interested in the possibility, adding that Tatarstan has already accumulated significant experience in the development and adoption of advanced technologies.

Skolkovo is being built from scratch 20 kilometers west of Moscow. The center will focus on research in five priority spheres: energy, information technologies, communication, biomedical research and nuclear technology.
