Georgia's Interior Ministry has accused a Russian army officer of being involved in a series of recent bomb attacks.

The attacks took place between September and November in different parts of Georgia, including a September 22 bombing in Tbilisi near the U.S. Embassy, October 2 at a railway bridge, October 21 at the Tbilisi railway terminal, and November 28 on the outskirts of the Georgian capital.

On December 4, the Georgian Interior Ministry detained a suspect, Gogita Arkania, and five accomplices, ministry spokeswoman Yekaterina Zguladze said.

Arkania said Russian army officer Yevgeny Borisov had forced him to carry out the bombings by threatening the security of his family members and also handed him the explosive devices.

She said Borisov had been deputy chief of staff of a Russian peacekeeping force in the village of Urta, Zugdidi District, from March through October 2008.
