Police confirmed on Monday 80 people were detained in downtown St. Petersburg over the weekend as they attempted to block a road in protest against the killing of a football fan in Moscow.
About 1,000 protesters marched down the sidewalk, shouting slogans and setting off flares, and then attempted to block a road.
Of those detained, 20 were released with a warning while the remaining 60 were charged with administrative offenses.
In Moscow, over 5,000 young people, mainly football fans and members of nationalist groups gathered Saturday on Manezh Square next to the Kremlin wall to remember Spartak Moscow supporter Yegor Sviridov.
The protesters ignored the order to disperse and clashed with riot police with 29 people injured as a result, including at least eight officers.
Sviridov, 28, was killed last week during a brawl in northern Moscow between football fans and migrants from the North Caucasus.
