A deadly plane accident that claimed the lives of at least three passengers and injured over forty other people occurred in the Siberian city of Surgut this Saturday.

The ill-fated aircraft, Russian Tu-154M passenger jet from Kogalymavia Airlines which was to land at Moscow's Domodedovo Airport, made an emergency landing in the airport of Surgut due to an engine flaming out on takeoff; the landing was followed by an explosion. The jet has completely burned down.

A spokesman for the Federal Transport Agency, Rosaviatsia, said there were 134 people on board the pane, including 116 passengers and 18 crewmembers.

The airport of Surgut has published the list of those killed and ingured in the jet explosion on its website, according to this information, 43 people have received injuries and three others are remainning missing. Earlier, the Emergencies Ministry said that 44 persons were affected.

The passengers who survived the deadly accident will take off for Moscow at 3.20 a.m. Moscow time, a police source told RIA Novosti.

Transport Minister Igor Levitin pledged that the plane crew and the airport services have done their best to evacuate the passengers as soon as possible, however eyewitnesses said that fire exits had been closed for a long time and the passengers had to jump out through the flame.

A popular Russian pop music group, Na-Na, was among the passengers on the airliner. Members of the group smelt the burnt odor first, a Surgut internet-user wrote on one of the city's local forums several hours after the tragedy citing his friend who was among the passengers of the aircraft.

A criminal case has been launched into the accident. "Investigators consider a range of reasons which could have caused the explosion, including violation of fire safety rules and non-observance of aircraft operation regulations," Russia's Investigation Committee spokesman Vladimir Markin said.
