Moscow's Gagarinsky District Court on Wednesday ruled that the 15-day jail term of the Other Russia opposition party leader Eduard Limonov arrested in Moscow after a rally on December 31 was legal.

Moscow's Gagarinsky District Court on Wednesday ruled that the 15-day jail term of the Other Russia opposition party leader Eduard Limonov arrested in Moscow after a rally on December 31 was legal.

Two protest rallies - one sanctioned and one not - were held at Moscow's central Triumfalnaya Square on New Year's Eve. Limonov was charged for yelling obscenities at law enforcers.

Limonov's defense appealed the term on Tuesday. The court turned down the complaint and the opposition leader will remain in a pretrial detention center until January 15, his lawyer Alexei Orlov said.

More than 60 people, including opposition figures Konstantin Kosyakin and Boris Nemtsov, were also detained during the rally. Since then, people have been gathering outside the jailhouse in support of them.

Nemtsov's lawyer filed a complaint to the European Court of Human Rights urging a fair trial.
