The leader of the Russian volatile Chechen Republic, Ramzan Kadyrov, on Monday urged western countries to detain terrorist ringleaders hiding out in Europe instead of their little known relatives.

The leader of the Russian volatile Chechen Republic, Ramzan Kadyrov, on Monday urged western countries to detain terrorist ringleaders hiding out in Europe instead of their little known relatives.

Kadyrov's call came in the wake of Monday's dramatic announcement that Ruslan Umarov, a brother of Chechen militant leader Doku Umarov, is in an Italian detention center for illegal immigrants in the city of Gradisca.

According to an article in the Italian paper Il Piccolo, the Italian Carabinieri detained 35-year-old Ruslan Umarov on January 6 after he was arrested in an express train in northern Italy en route to Paris, on suspicion of taking part in terrorist activities.

"The fight with terrorism should not be turned into mockery," Kadyrov commented.

"If intelligence services of western countries want to cooperate in this [war against terrorism] with their Russian colleagues, they, first of all, should detain those who are involved in crimes, those who promulgate ideas of terrorism," he said.

"Who is Ruslan Umarov? I know nothing about him - either bad, or good." the Chechen leader said.

"I do not know him; however, I do know about [militant leaders] Movladi Udugov and Akhmed Zakayev who are living easily in the West. I know that they must come to trial. But nobody disturbs them," Kadyrov added.
