Russian President Dmitry Medvedev called on Monday for the replacement of some 40,000 outdated surveillance cameras in Moscow.
Moscow has a total of 80,000 surveillance cameras, while "only 39,000 of them meet police requirements," Moscow Mayor, Sergei Sobyanin said during a meeting with Medvedev.
"The surveillance cameras must be upgraded," Medvedev replied.
Medvedev was speaking after examining the surveillance cameras network that, as well as monitoring crimes, also provides information on the location of officers throughout the city.
