The laying of the undersea section of the Nord Stream pipeline will finish in July, Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday in his annual address to parliament.

"As you remember, there were plenty of discussions and doubts around our other strategic infrastructure projects, including the much talked about Nord Stream pipe line. One year ago... I told you that the laying of the undersea part of Nord Stream had started."

In October, Europeans will receive gas via the pipeline, Putin pledged.

The project, intended to deliver Russian gas under the Baltic Sea to Europe, envisages the construction of two parallel pipelines, each with a capacity of 27.5 billion cubic meters a year. The 1,224-km pipeline is designed to stretch from Russia's Vyborg near the Finnish border to Greifswald on the German coast.
