Russia plans to reduce its budget deficit to 1-1.5 % of GDP, Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday.

"The budget deficit is a potential risk for the economy, which is still dependent on global prices for natural resources," Putin said during his annual address to parliament.

"This year we are planning to reduce the deficit to 1-1.5 % of GDP, and we will strive for a non-deficit budget in the future."

The estimated size of the budget deficit for 2011 is 1.814 trillion rubles or around $64 billion.
