A 39-year-old Russian man has been detained on suspicion of planting bombs near the Dom-2 reality television show's set outside Moscow, leaving one security guard injured from an ensuing blast, a law enforcement source in Novokuznetsk said on Monday.

A security guard for the program, the Russian version of the popular Big Brother reality show, received multiple injuries on Sunday morning after he and his partner were making regular rounds and stumbled upon a backpack placed in the fence surrounding the set. One of the guards tried to remove the backpack and it exploded. A second backpack with an explosive device was located 150 meters away from the first. Special security forces were able to defuse the second device.

According to police, the man, originally from the western Siberian city of Novokuznetsk, had attempted to participate in the program several times but was unable to make it through the initial casting stage. Police also say he has a past criminal record of theft and possession of drugs.

A criminal investigation has been launched.
