A planned increase in gasoline duties in Russia is a temporary measure, a deputy finance minister said on Friday.

Sergei Shatalov said the measure would be in place for two to three months, until the country overcomes it gasoline shortages.

"It is a temporary measure," Shatalov told RIA Novosti on Friday.

The Russian government announced earlier today it would increase gasoline export duty by 44 percent from May 1 instead of the expected 34 percent.

The new tariff will stand at $408.3 per ton instead of the expected $304 per ton.
