Outgoing Russian President Dmitry Medvedev ordered the government to submit proposals by June 1, 2012 on easing the visa regime for tourists, including those who visit the country on cruise liners and yachts, the Kremlin press service reported on Wednesday.

The President has approved a list of instructions stemming from a meeting on the development of a tourism cluster in the North Caucasus, which was held on March 11, 2012. “Present proposals to simplify the entry into the territory of the Russian Federation by foreign citizens visiting the country for tourism, including cruise and yacht tourism,” the order stated.

In addition, Medvedev ordered preparation of proposals by the end of May for the creation of a tourist-recreational special economic zone in the Adler district of Sochi for the future use of facilities and infrastructure being created for the Olympic Games in 2014.

Prime Minister Vladimir Putin was put in charge of executing the orders.
