The leader of the Other Russia movement Eduard Limonov, detained on Saturday during an unauthorized rally in Moscow, was released after several hours in custody, the movement’s spokesman Alexander Averin said.

“Limonov was released from the Tverskoye police department after police had compiled a report of administrative offense,” the spokesman said.

The opposition leader was also obliged to attend court hearings. The date is yet unknown.

A number of other detained activists were also released, Averin said.

The Moscow Police Department was not immediately available for a comment, but the Interior Ministry earlier said that about 60 demonstrators were detained in central Moscow on Saturday.

According to the Russian Interior Ministry’s estimates, some 200 people “made an attempt to hold an unauthorized event” at Triumfalnaya Square. The event was covered by about 100 media reporters and bloggers.

Triumfalnaya is the regular venue for unsanctioned Strategy-31 protests held on the 31st day of a month to affirm Article 31 of the Constitution, which guarantees freedom of assembly.
