A former general in the Georgian Army, Roman Dumbadze, was shot dead in Moscow on Monday, a police source said.

“According to preliminary information, the victim is 48-year-old Roman Dumbadze,” a source in the police told RIA Novosti on the condition of anonymity.

Dumbadze, who received Russian citizenship in 2010, headed an infantry brigade stationed in the autonomous Georgian region of Adjara in 2004. He achieved notoriety in Georgia after refusing to fulfill President Mikheil Saakashvili’s orders during the Adjaran crisis. Dumbadze then took the side of the Adjaran leader, Aslan Abashidze.

The police also said that there were reportedly two killers on a motorcycle who shot the general. The bike was later found abandoned several kilometers from the scene of the murder.
