Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has arrived in Kazakhstan on a working visit, a RIA Novosti correspondent reported on Monday.

Medvedev will meet with the country’s president Nursultan Nazarbayev, then head for a meeting with his Kazakh counterpart Karim Masimov, to be followed by bilateral talks in an expanded format.

The Russian delegation at the talks comprises deputy chief of the government staff Sergei Prikhodko, Russian Ambassador to Kazakhstan Mikhail Bocharnikov, Industry and Trade Minister Denis Manturov and other officials.

The fuel and energy sector is one of the key spheres that Russia and Kazakhstan cooperate in. The two countries have been developing ties in the power industry, nuclear power industry and the oil and gas sphere.

Moscow and Astana have also been cooperating in the military and technological sphere, with Russia supplying armaments to Kazakhstan and assisting its neighbor in maintaining and repairing Kazakh military hardware.

After the visit to Kazakhstan, Medvedev is to fly to Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan, to attend a CIS prime ministerial meeting.
