The media reports that a large Russian amphibious ship carrying weapons and troops was en route to Syria are false, a source in the Russian Black Sea Fleet told RIA Novosti on Sunday.
“The ship is in the state of instant readiness for departure like all of the fleet’s warships. There are no marines aboard the ship and there were no commands for a voyage towards Syria. The crews are engaged in day-to-day activities,” the source said.
Some Ukrainian media sources reported on Sunday, referring to CNN and other western media that the Nikolai Filchenkov large amphibious ship from the Russian Black Sea Fleet stationed in the Crimea in Ukraine was heading for the Syrian port of Tartus carrying weapons and marines to defend Russia’s naval facility.
U.S. media claimed U.S. intelligence was tracking the ship’s movement towards Syria.
In late May, several Russian and Western media as well as a U.S.-based advocacy group, Human Rights First, reported that the Russian-flagged bulk cargo vessel Professor Katsman docked at the Syrian port of Tartus on May 26, allegedly carrying weapons for the President Bashar Al-Assad’s forces.
Soon after the reports, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice lashed out at Russia over its alleged arms supplies to Syria. Moscow strongly rejected the claims, saying that Russia was not “delivering to Syria, or anywhere else, items that could be used against peaceful demonstrators.”
According to UN estimates, about 10,000 people have been killed in Syria since the beginning of a popular uprising against President Assad in March 2011, which started with peaceful protests but has since grown increasingly militarized.

- bielecRussia does not have to be shy18:51, 17/06/2012Americans were supplying weapons to Israel. These weapons were used by the IDF to slaughter civilians in Beirut and in Gaza. They included depleted uranium bombs, cluster bombs, and white phosphorus bombs. It is illegal to use them in densly populated civilian areas. Americans also supplied Israel with military planes and helicopters.
At that time, we heard the U.S. administration say, “Israel has the right to defend itself.”
Today, we may say, “Syria has the right to defend itself.” Syria is Russia`s ally and Syria is under attack orchestrated and supported from abroad. Russia may openly support it, and Russia should. Nothing wrong with it. - SirkoHa!!!22:27, 17/06/2012"Moscow strongly rejected the claims.." Too bad they are lies for it is clear and apparent that Moscow is run by idiots. If the tables were turned how many American ships would be diembarking before now at Syria...????
- lmThey will never stop trying to bring down Russia.15:46, 18/06/2012Again Russia cannot back down on Syria despite what the West PR campaign of showing mass slaughter of civilians in which the Syrian government would be crazy to do such knowing fully well Moscow would read the riot act on Assad.
It is clear that these crimes were committed by people who wants intervention to bad the Russia opposition cannot see this. And the Kremlin administration cannot be seen as been careless about what is planning behind the sense to sow havoc inside Russia at a latter date.
The plan is simple.
1: The West gets enough oil to supply there friends by taking Iraq, Libya, and Iran.
2: The EU tightens the screw on Russia oil imports.
3: Start mass demonstration inside Russia with the help of the middle class and NGO’s.
4: Start an uprising in the North Caucasus.
5: Bring oil prices down for at least 4 years.
6: Russia is already surrounded by NATO and now the missile shield.
7: Russia opposition’s starts talking about there region been independent.
8: The Far EAST is attacked.
9: The West putting sanctions to further squeeze Russia.
10: Ukraine kicks Russia out of there country.
11: Georgia launches an attack again.
All about may seems as none existence now, but who knows?
Russia will gain respect much needed respect by standing up on Syria and for the rule of law even if it means putting men on the ground also of course they will be criticizes but such is the price for respect.
