Novosibirsk intends to collect 600,000 rubles (some $20,000) in order to unveil a monument to Apple co-founder Steve Jobs by the end of 2012, the project intiator, Darya Zhdanova, said on Monday.

“We like the ideas that he [Jobs] personifies and his type of personality. That is the type that should build a new Russia,” she said adding that the sculpture is most likely to be “abstract and philosophical.”

Zhdanova said the monument is not a part of any Apple advertising campaign.

Some 55,000 rubles ($1,700) have been collected so far. The monument may be unveiled near Akademgorodok, the educational and scientific center of Novosibirsk and Siberia. An alley named after Steve Jobs may also appear in Akademgorodok.

Jobs died on October 5, 2011 of pancreatic cancer at the age of 56. A bronze statue of Jobs was unveiled in a science park in Budapest, Hungary, two months after his death.
