Two militants have been killed by Russian security forces in the troubled southern republic of Dagestan, local officials said on Saturday.

The men were shot dead after refusing to stop their car for an inspection late on Friday, police said.

There were no reports of casualties among the security forces.

Authorities in the North Caucasus region have been battling a low-level Islamist insurgency.
