Russian Universities Lose Ground in World Rankings

Moscow State University and St. Petersburg University have lost ground in the latest edition of the annual QS World University Rankings, a QS regional director said on Tuesday.
Moscow State University dropped to 116th from the 112th position, while St. Petersburg University, President Vladimir Putin’s alma mater, slipped two positions to 253rd place.
Meanwhile, the Far-Eastern Federal University in Vladivostok, which recently hosted the 2012 APEC summit, debuted in the rankings in 692nd place.
The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) topped the rankings for the first time in the nine years of its publication, while Cambridge dropped to second place after two years at number one.

- loreghigThey are always the best. the others are nothing20:08, 11/09/2012I hope none of the readers believes those ranks. Everybody knows that american and english universities can barely take up to Russian, Italian, French and German universities, none the less non anglo-saxons universities are always at the bottom. Americans make their ranking and of course they put themselves at the top of the list. I would be happy to see a competition between a student of MIT vs one of Normale di Pisa (Italy). I would be laughting for hours by seeing the sorry figure the American student would probably cut. Russian boys and girls, keep on study at your universities which have nothing to learn from America or UK.
