Two Dead, Eight Injured in Moscow Traffic Accident
MOSCOW, September 23 (RIA Novosti)
Two people were killed and eight injured after a minivan taxi collided with a car in south-east Moscow, police said on Sunday.
The accident occurred early on Sunday in Ryazansky Avenue, the police said.
“As a result of the collision, the Lexus car that crashed into the minivan taxi burned down completely,” the police said.
The car collision comes a day after a deadly road accident in the Russian capital, which killed seven and injured three persons, when a car slammed into a bus stop in western Moscow.
A Toyota driver, 29, lost control of his vehicle at high speed and went over the curb. The car was travelling at nearly 200 kilometers per hour when it spun out of control.
The driver was detained at the scene in an apparent state of intoxication, police said. He is looking at up to nine years in prison if convicted. The man’s driving license was suspended two years ago for speeding, police said.
Earlier reports said all the seven dead were teenagers, three boys and four girls.
According to statistics, 30,000 people lose their lives in traffic accidents every year in Russia due to the poor state of highway networks and reckless driving.
