MOSCOW, January 13 (RIA Novosti) – Rail traffic resumed on world’s longest railroad connecting Moscow and Far East, after Saturday’s derailment in Siberia, the Russian Emergencies Ministry said early on Sunday.

Over 20 carriages of a freight train, loaded with coal, derailed early on Saturday on the Trans-Siberian Railway in the Irkutsk Region. A locomotive ploughed into the train shortly after, killing two people, knocking down power lines and seriously damaging the track.

“Rail traffic in the Slyudyansk District of the Irkutsk Region resumed both ways as of 23:00 Moscow time [Saturday]. Works to fix the power lines are still underway,” the ministry said.

All passenger trains, stranded by the crash, currently head to their destination points.
