BARNAUL, January 23 (RIA Novosti) – Doctors in the Altai Territory in southern Siberia successfully separated two-month-old conjoined twins, the head of the hospital’s premature baby care unit said on Wednesday.
“The operation was successful. The babies are feeling well and are staying with their mother,” said Yulia Miller.
The two girls, Evelina and Violetta, were joined at the abdomen and shared a liver, she added.
The operation, which lasted for an hour and a half, is the fourth successful separation of conjoined twins in Russia since the collapse of the Soviet Union.
According to the doctors, the twins may be discharged from the hospital in ten days.
